The Name
2 Corinthians 4:18 (NIV)
18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
Lyrics
VERSE 1
They ask me, where my eyes are gazing
I tell how I look above the world, so temporary
For though they count it strange, to trust in that which is unseen
They think I’m blind but truly these things are, more real to me
CHORUS
I still believe, in the name that raises dead to life
I still believe, in the name that turns the dark to light
I still believe, in the love that transcends all of time
I still believe, in the name I spoke that gave me life
The name of
Jesus

VERSE 2
Eternity, is more than I could dream of
Yet it’s a place, I will know when, my numbered days are done
For though the world will tell us, to invest our treasure here
Don’t let the lies consume your mind, declare His name, and cast out fear
CHORUS
I lift my eyes, to the name that raises dead to life
I lift my eyes, to the name that turns the dark to light
I lift my eyes, to the love that transcends all of time
I lift my eyes, to the name I spoke that gave – me life

VERSE 3
I once was full of sorrow, and in pain
I lived a life I thought would bring me, everlasting joy-filled days
But when I lived my life for me, this is not what I found
But Jesus came and bore my sin and shame, and turned, my life around -- so
CHORUS
I place my all, in the name that raises dead to life
I place my all, in the name that turns the dark to light
I place my all, in the love that transcends all of time
I place my all, in the name I spoke that gave me life

“What are you looking at?” a stranger asks an old man sitting on a bench. The man’s eyes are fixed beyond the clouds.
“I’m looking towards my future home, towards the place Christ has prepared for me above,” the man replies. The stranger looks towards the sky, trying to find the spot where the man is gazing upon.
“I don’t see it. All I see is a blue sky and puffy white clouds.”
“I don’t see it either, but I know it’s there.”
2 Corinthians 4:18
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
Today, having an unshakable belief in Jesus is not always normal or common. Some people will call you crazy for believing in a God that you cannot see with your own eyes or touch with your own hands. But, for those who take the leap of faith to believe in the Name that brings light to the shadows and life to death, their reward will be eternal.
I Still Believe
In the Name of Jesus
The stranger decides to take a seat next to the man on the bench.
“I can’t believe the God that you believe in. Life has been too terrible for me. I lost my job, I can’t put food on the table for my family, there’s just no way that a good God would let me live in this kind of worry,” the stranger says.
“Years ago, when I was a little boy, my house caught fire while I was asleep. When the smoke woke me up, I couldn’t move because I was so scared. I remember asking Jesus for help, and the fear left me and I was able to escape my burning home.”
After hearing the old man’s story, the stranger looked down to the ground, but the man kept his eyes fixed to the heavens above.
Living in this world can be dangerous and scary. Tragedies occur at every inch of this world, and it can be so easy to allow our minds to be consumed with fear. Sometimes, it can be easier to walk with our head low, looking to the ground to avoid the evil all around us. But, Jesus calls us to lift our eyes and fix our gaze above. He calls us to look to Him. Jesus calls us to lift our eyes and focus on His love that conquers all evil and that transcends all of time.
I Lift My Eyes
To the Name of Jesus
“I just don’t understand how I can keep going,” the stranger confesses to the man. “I’ve tried pursuing my dreams and chasing what makes me happy, but everything just leaves me more and more empty.”
“Place your trust in Jesus,” the man says as he places his arm on the stranger’s shoulder. “When I spoke His name in the fire, I was saved. His name gave me life, and I know that life will last forever.”
Placing our trust in Jesus does not mean that we will always be saved from life’s hardships and trials, but it does mean that we will always have someone who will walk through the fires of life with us. Calling on the Name of Christ may not always save us from earthly troubles, but trusting in His Name will always save us from the eternal ones. When we place our all in Jesus, He changes us, redeems us, restores us, and grants us everlasting life.
